UC Denver Ironport (SPAM) - FAQ
Q. What Anti-Spam system is the University of Colorado Denver using?
A. We are using the Ironport Anti-Spam system. The IronPort system can eliminate up to 90% of incoming spam, as well as allowing you direct access (via web interface) to manage your own spam quarantine.
Q. How do I know which messages that were sent to my email address were quarantine as spam?
A. You will receive a daily quarantine digest from “Spam Admin”, showing all spam messages that were quarantined as spam. You can release quarantined messages that are listed in the digest by clicking on the Release link.
Q. What does the spam digest message look like?
A. Your daily spam digest will look similar to the screenshot below, with a subject line saying: “IronPort Spam Quarantine Notification.”

Q. How do I release a quarantined messages?
A. Click on the Release link, to have the quarantined message delivered to your inbox. You should receive the message within a few minutes.
Q. Do I need to take any action with my quarantine digest?
A. No, you do not need to take any action. The spam messages identified in your quarantine digest will be automatically removed from the quarantine after 14 day(s).
Q. How do I manage my own spam quarantine through web interface?
A. When you receive a quarantine digest from Spam Admin, you can click on the link called “View all Quarantined Messages,” at the bottom right of the Quarantined Email list, to open the web interface. You will see a screen similar to the one below:

From here, you can manage your quarantine by searching and releasing any messages that were quarantined within the last 14 days. You can filter your search by selecting the “Messages Received” option, such as Today, Last 7 days, or Date Range. As well as searching by a sender or by by subject of the message. For example, if you want to search for all messages came from “BSmith@yahoo.com” that were sent to you today., you need to follow the instructions below:
- Select “Today” option for the Messages Received.
- From the Where drop-down box, click the dropdown arrow and select “From”.
- Click on a next dropdown arrow and select “Is”.
- Enter BSmith@yahoo.com in the blank text box of the Where option.
- Click Search. This will search for all messages were sent by BSmith@yahoo.com those were quarantined as spam.
- If the searched messages found, it will show in the result section. Click Release link to release them.
