UCD Consolidation

On July 1, 2004, the University of Colorado at Denver officially joined with the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center to create a new university. The new entity is currently located on three separate campuses in downtown Denver, at Colorado Boulevard and 9th Avenue, and at Fitzsimons at Aurora.

This diverse new university is home to a full range of undergraduate degree programs, graduate degree programs and wealth of options for pursuing the health sciences. The downtown Denver location puts it at the heart of Colorado’s Capitol. The growing Fitzsimmons campus in Aurora puts the university on the forefront of biotechnology development and innovation.

The consolidation gives us the opportunity and challenge to develop a premier public, urban, research university for the Denver-Aurora metropolitan area, Colorado and the nation. We will continue our tradition of providing access to higher education for a diverse population of both undergraduate and graduate students. We will build on our interdisciplinary programs to continue to improve education for our students and advance research for the good of all. During these tough economic times, the new university will develop the flexibility and entrepreneurial leadership needed to pursue business and community partnerships.
