Engineering Program

Operating our facilities has a great impact on energy consumption.  Click here for more information on Environmental Awareness

Building Automation System

The BAS program provides energy management tools and Building Maintenance & Operations support.  BAS includes system operation, equipment specification, and assistance with building HVAC troubleshooting.

For information on Building Automation System click here.

Engineering Standards

Engineering develops specific standards as necessary to support operations.  Current standards include: metering, infrastructure connections, various building automation requirements, evaporative cooling, custom air-handling-units, and other miscellaneous concerns.

Controlled Maintenance Projects

Major-maintenance improvements, that is projects generally in excess of $15,000 are developed and planned through engineering.  These improvements are defined as Controlled Maintenance Projects and are funded through the State.  State Buildings And Real Estate Programs has a standards process for project development, submittal, evaluation, award, and project management.  The projects are administered through the Facilities Projects Department.

Facilities Audit

The Facilities Audit process methodically inspects, evaluates and assigns score ( FCI # = Facilities Condition Index) to campus buildings and infrastructure.  FCI s cores are used to prioritize potential Controlled Maintenance projects. .

Regulator Compliance

Regulator requirements associated with facilities operations are managed through the engineering division, but do not include laboratory research requirements.  Environmental Health & Safety Department is responsible for regulatory compliance associated with biosafety, radiation safety, hazardous wastes – including CERCLA reporting.  Fire & Life Safety is included within Facilities Operations under a separate program.

Engineering is responsible for boiler flue emissions, stormwater, and spill prevention (SPCC compliance).

Stormwater Permit

Both the 9th Avenue and the Anschutz Medical Campus are required to administer MS4 Stormwater Permits (CDPS Permit #COR-090075).  To request a review of the UCD stormwater management plan, to make comments or suggestions, or to report potential stormwater contamination concerns, click here.

Project Review

Project design documents and construction progress is reviewed for standards compliance, good engineering practice, and overall coordination.  Review efforts are not comprehensive, but include specific engineering criteria.
