The Great Big Piano Trio: Fresh approach to chamber music, May 9

(May 7, 2008) The UC Denver College of Arts & Media and the Ucross Foundation present a special performance of The Great Big Piano Trio on Friday, May 9, at 7:30 p.m., in the King Center Concert Hall on the Auraria campus.

Three of the most original instrumentalists to ever mutate out of the classical gene pool join forces to breathe new life into the time-honored piano trio tradition. The Trio features pianist Philip Aaberg, cellist Eugene Friesen and violinist Tracy Silverman.

Performing works from their new all-Bach CD, 3 Part Invention, an album of reinterpreted versions of Bach masterpieces, their live concerts also include original works and reinventions of other classical repertoire. Their iconoclastic performances are full of approachable good humor and break all the pretenses of classical performance conventions – jazz, pop and world influences accent the beauty, elegance and soulfulness of traditional masterworks.

Tickets are $12 for general admission and $5 for UCD students. Tickets can be purchased online at www.ahec.edu/kingcenter or in person at the King Center Box Office at 855 Lawrence Way in Denver. Parking is FREE in the Tivoli lot with a valid ticket stub.
